The author of The Unspeakable, Nicola Hanefeld
I was born in 1958 in London and grew up in England, unaware of my Jewish heritage. I have lived in Freiburg in south-west Germany since 1981. Shortly before my father died, in his 80th year, he shared never previously mentioned facts about his family. My father’s revelations sent me on a heart-breaking journey to discover the Holocaust trauma silently embedded in my family. As I am fluent in German, I could understand many relevant historical documents in German that came to light during my research. I have a degree in biology, a PhD in maternal health and am a freelance Alexander Technique coach. I have three grown-up children and three grandchildren.
