Learning the Alexander Technique facilitates becoming more aware of how we do what we do. Through learning the AT activities can be done with less unnecessary tension; we save energy and feel better. Simple daily activities like standing, sitting, getting up out of a chair or speaking can be used to create this awareness. Alexander work is also done while lying in semi-supine to experience 'non-doing'.
Discover and enjoy what having less stress in your life means, discover more inner peace with the Alexander Technique, a method by which you can optimise your holistic self-management.
We do actually know that posture and how we feel are connected. Often, when we feel 'down' we then try with effort to take up a 'good posture' which is, however, imbued with tension and 'doing' - that costs energy! It can create back pain and other tension issues. By applying the Alexander principles our natural and free movement patterns come again to the fore and we feel free and relaxed and because that is conscious, it is sustainable.
Image left: "in balance"- the head is balanced on top of the spine which is unfolded to its full length. The person is sitting at ease and is relaxed. Optimal holistic self-management is probable because the person is not tense.
Image right: the person is not in balance but is sitting somewhat collapsed. The neck is shortened, the spine is not unfolded into its full length. Sitting like this becomes uncomfortable after a while and the person's self-management will probably be tense on all levels of being. Breathing and digestive systems are also compromised.
