Using mindful communication in Alexander Technique teaching

Using spoken language to understand what a pupil is experiencing in one-to-one teaching is of value along with 'understanding' via the hands. This course aims to refine the abilities a teacher needs for a successful and mindful spoken exchange while teaching the AT. The course is an introduction to Carl Rogers’ person-centred communication and the three 'Rogers - variables': empathy, authenticity/congruence and unconditional positive regard.
The person-centred framework has become known for these three variables and found to benefit personal development and our tendency to self-actualize. I suggest that the mindful, non-judgemental, non-doing attitude that the AT foregrounds when working with the AT principles is both empathic with unconditional positive regard towards oneself. I believe that supporting people in this process is part of the responsibility of Alexander teachers. This course gives teacher's the skills to do that. Read more about this.
We will work in theory and practice to become acquainted with the Rogers’ approach. We will use a creative approach to improve our ability to understand what someone else is experiencing. We will work as a group and in pairs in break-out rooms. Mindful communication onlineMax. eight participants.
