Chapter 2: The Black Forest
My first winter in the Black Forest, 1976.
Me as a 20-year-old, still living between the worlds, three years before I migrated to Freiburg in 1981.
The books which helped me understand Bruno's relationship to Heinz Gütermann and the company Gütermann which ultimately made it possible for my father with his parents (my grandparents) to emigrate from Prague to London in spring 1939.
I met Christoph Gütermann in Vienna for the first time in 2019. Our paternal grandfathers, Heinz and Bruno, were best friends. Heinz played a central role supporting part of my family - I relate that story in Chapter 14.
